Among the many little things that need to be done in order to prepare for Monday, I submitted the last of my smaller projects for TWC (prior to the actual portfolio), and began to finish my portfolio. Sadly, I have a feeling I'll need to use the weekend to finish it, but at least I finished the more time-intensive parts done this evening.
My officemates and I had decided on going to Jazz in the Garden, but it rained off and on throughout the day. It was canceled shortly after we decided not to go and have the seats of our pants drenched in the grass. Instead, I went to a nearby happy hour with coworkers and my supervisor to send the legal interns off. It was a bit of a dive bar with a cool name, but I enjoyed my water and the conversation that jumped from topic to topic.
We all walked towards the metro afterwards, and the guys invited me to go and do karaoke this evening with them, but I opted out. Jammies and Wal-Mart shopping (though not in that order!!) instead because we can't all have fun... right?
Walmart has become the hub center for calls home when I'm not at the RAF; there's something about talking with my mother while scrutinizing the produce section. Tonight, in a half-joking manner, I asked my mother if I could come home. She said I could in a week (my flight is next week)... I've applied to the Dad Court of Appeals. =|
Tonight I had one of my rare junk food cravings... they're strange because when they hit, they hit hard. I had intended to buy vegetables and chicken breasts, but I ended up also buying IBC cream soda, and two kinds of Pillsbury cookies. With the cookies in the oven, I caught the end of About Time with roommate #2 and the friend who is visiting her for the weekend. I think I'll get the movie from RedBox after I come back to Lubbock, because the last half was absolutely darling.
A quiet evening in the living room with warm sugar cookies was really what I needed. The insane rushing around style of DC is starting to wear me down.
One excellent thing about this experience is that I've absolutely decided that I don't want to work in a city where public transportation is a necessity... Smaller cities are really the route I'd like to take with my future career, if I can manage it.
As much amazing history and culture as DC has, I'd really like to come home.
