Monday was hot and humid, and a heat rash developed on my face and back. It was my first time with one, and the strange bumps on my face were more annoying that painful. Count your blessings... I've learned the value of cotton shirts, trust me!
After work I came home for an educational session with my civic engagement project; Student Veterans of America came and presented their organization to our group, which was delightful. Something I appreciated was that it was highly interactive. Dialogues always beat lectures!

With plans to relax in a baking soda bath to help with my summer skin (a glow of a different kind?), I smeared a clay mask on my face and chatted with one of my roommates. Just as my skin was starting to feel normal.... the fire alarm went off. Not our apartment alarm, no. The building fire alarm. Because we couldn't smell or see |
smoke (which in hindsight was probably not the best touchstone of the moment), I took five extra moments to get dressed and wash my face so I looked less like Elphaba (Wicked, anyone?). We joined the rest of the students across the street and watched as two fire trucks blared their horns and met in front of the building. Still no smoke. Ten minutes later everyone was allowed back in.
It was a mild inconvenience, but more than that it was an interesting experience. I have scarier evacuation stories, so I should count my blessings!!
My night ended well, though: with a mint chip Klondike bar.
What would you do for a Klondike bar?
